The Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has said that Manchester City is the strongest contender to win the Premier League title in the ongoing season.
The Blues are only slightly behind City in terms of points at the moment and they themselves are the favourites for the league crown, but, Mourinho reckons that his squad has not got as much depth and power as that of City.
Mourinho had guided Chelsea to the Premier League crown a couple of times during his first tenure, but, he had got a very strong team at that time. There were quality players at Stamford Bridge for every department and the Blues just used to thrash teams.
But, as far as the current Chelsea squad is concerned, it’s not that much experienced. Yes, they have got a few veterans including John Terry, despite that, this side doesn’t look dominant at all.
Mourinho who took charge at Stamford Bridge for the second time at the start of this season also had the same thing to say when he was asked about his team’s chances of achieving the league glory this season.
The 50 years Old Portuguese said, “For us to leave City behind in the title race this season, it’s really hard. If we do that, I would consider it as the biggest feat of my managerial career. Yes, we have won in the past, but, we were strong enough to do so then. We had got some outstanding players especially the second time that we became champion. We nailed it from the outset.”
“As far as the current squad is concerned, it has got potential, but, it’s still going through the development phase.”
However, neither Chelsea nor City is leading the league table right now. It’s Arsenal which is at the top.
